Our Engagement

We live the open source philosophy and contribute our part to the community

LibreOffice / The Document Foundation

LibreOffice: it stands out from the office suite crowd.

We use LibreOffice as our standard office solution and support customers with SLA contracts in using OpenOffice and LibreOffice. The LibreOffice community is very important to us, so we regularly give something back to the community through various activities. In addition to the organization of the LibreOffice Conference, several employees contributed patches to LibreOffice. We also support the Document Foundation by housing various servers and buildbots on our infrastructure.

Paket Mirror

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

Fast downloads and high availability characterize good package mirrors - nothing less than that we strive for with our package mirror. The mirror is available at https://pkg.adfinis-sygroup.ch and is an official mirror for the following distributions:

  • Arch Linux
  • Debian
  • EPEL
  • Ubuntu
  • CentOS
  • dotdeb
  • openSUSE
  • Alpine
  • ...

The server delivers about 20 million files and about 6TB of data in one month.

Sponsoring of conferences

Meet and progress together.

As a sponsor, Adfinis SyGroup regularly supports open source conferences. In addition, our speakers contribute to the content of various events. Here is a small excerpt:

Swiss OpenStreetMap Association

Open Street Map: more than just a Map!

Open Data is a topic closely related to Open Source that is very important to us. The Swiss OpenStreetMap Association is an elementary part of the Swiss OpenStreetMap movement, which contributes a lot to the development of free map data. Adfinis SyGroup supports the Swiss OpenStreetMap Association with the housing of server infrastructure and various employees contribute to the growth of the data with their edits.

Aptly Management done the easy way!

Aptly is a wonderful solution for creating and managing apt repositories. We use Aptly in various scenarios, have contributed extensive enhancements and are a member of the Core Contributor team. The resulting solution is available as PyAptly under the GNU Affero General Public License on GitHub.

Make Foreman configuration as easy as pie! 🙂

We provision Linux systems internally and for our customers preferably via Foreman. In order to make the installation and configuration reproducible and automatable, we have developed a solution that can map large parts of the Foreman configuration with a YML file and execute them using Ansible, for example. The resulting software is available as Foreman-YML under the GNU General Public License on GitHub.

Upstream Contributions

We don't just cook our own soup!

For all Open Source solutions we use, we work directly with the upstream projects. In this way, changes and improvements are directly incorporated. We also use the public channels for communication with the projects and support other users with questions in forums, in IRC channels, etc. For all open source solutions we use, we work directly with the upstream projects. Thanks to our stable network in the open source community, we can draw on a large pool of knowledge and thus maintain a high standard of quality.

Quality assurance through commitment

We take an active role in the open source community by sharing our knowledge with other experts and promoting various organizations and communities that are committed to the sustainable use of open source technologies. In this way, we contribute our part to technology development and help to further improve the quality of open source products.

Parliamentary Group on Digital Sustainability (Parldigi)

The Parliamentary Group on Digital Sustainability promotes the sustainable and innovative use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and advocates public access to knowledge goods.

Adfinis SyGroup is a partner of Parldigi and provides resources and time to support Parldigi's initiatives.

CH Open - Swiss Open Systems User Group

Since its establishment in 1982, the independent association CH Open (Swiss Open Systems User Group) has taken up the cause of promoting open and free systems. At the centre of their activities are continuing education and the exchange of information among the members.

Through various events and activities, CH Open fosters members' theoretical and practical expertise in Linux and other open source software. These occasions also present a fantastic opportunity for networking.

CH Open is also active behind the scenes. The association is involved in commissions and activities such as eCHICTswitzerland and swissICT for open source software.

The comprehensive network of relations creates close contacts in the private sector and with public administrative organisations. As a result, the CH Open's commitment to open source software is recognised on a broad front.

Adfinis SyGroup has long been a member and sponsor of CH Open, even represented on the association board by our own Nicolas Christener. We actively support the activities of CH Open.

OSBA - Open Source Business Alliance

The Open Source Business Alliance – or OSB Alliance for short – is Europe's largest network of companies and organisations that develop, expand or implement open source software.

The goal of the OSB Alliance is to make open source software and other types of open collaboration successful. The OSB Alliance achieves its goals by spreading information, creating positive conditions for manufacturers and users and by actively networking manufacturers, customers and service providers. In this effort, interoperability between different open source systems, as well as proprietary software, plays a particularly important role.

Adfinis SyGroup is a member of the OSBA and in close contact with the individuals and companies central to the OSBA.
